Glee: The Rachel Berry Look

May 10, 2010 Author: Fashionista | Filed under: Fashion, Fashion Accessories, General, Jewelry

If, like the rest of the world, you have been following Glee, then chances are you will be smitten by Rachel Berry.  It is difficult to ignore Rachel Berry as she is portrayed by Lea Michele.  She is fun, she is spirited and she knows what she likes and she will stop at nothing to get it. And she is not too goody goody that would make people blanch when they see her.  She’s just your typical 16 year old girl who is struggling with finding out who she is and trying to make her mark in the world.

Love her or hate her, you surely would want to get her fashion.  Rachel Berry is the epitome of preppy and her fashion sense shines through.  I guess having two gay dads and a dream of being a super star gives you that.  So how do you look like Rachel Berry?

The Rachel Berry Look

The Rachel Berry Look

Nothing defines Rachel Berry than this get up:

Typically Rachel Berry

Typically Rachel Berry

A cardigan sweater, a plaid skirt (school girl uniform skirt would be a to-die-for bonus!), a long sleeved plain shirt.  Put them all together and voila!
Or put out a sweater vest, an oxford shirt, and a colorful skirt, and you get this:

As you have noticed, Rachel Berry is not big on accessories.  She tones it down because of the semi-formal tone of her outfit.  But she often has a simple necklace around her neck.  Try these out:

or something simpler:

And we all know that Rachel loves colors.  Her whole room is painted pink and vibrant violet, and it translates to her clothes and accessories.  And she has a touch of sentimentalism about her that makes this locket a perfect Rachel Berry accessory:

Girls just want to have fun…with colors! This season is not the time to be boring. As the flowers bloom, so should we. So let’s keep it bright, people. Starting with colorful nail polish.

Orange. You are glad you chose to be bold? Paint your nails orange! The color is vibrant and entails energy and warmth. When you hear the word, the picture of the orange fruit comes to mind. This is why it denotes Vitamin C, ergo, good health. The color also represents the change in season because leaves turn orange during autumn and orange is the color of pumpkin that is the symbol of Halloween.

My favorite orange nail polish is Stargazer’s neon orange. Miley Cyrus and Rihanna were seen sporting the color this season. Equally vibrant is this bangle that has a range of complementary colors in it:

So maybe Heidi Montag is mostly seen as the evil queen or stepmother, but she recently showed off snow white nails that is perfect for the season. Snow white polish is available at La Rosa: Diamond Nail Supplies. White gets along with any color and symbolizes purity, innocence and cleanliness, just like this ring:

Fergie showed off her engagement bling by wearing pale pink nail polish that is barely visible, diverting the eyes to the big rock. Pale pink nail polish by Borghese will do the same for this black and white murano glass ring:

Yellow is the color of the sun. So this would mean happiness and joy so keep those nails joyful with this Essie bright yellow nail polish that Rihanna loves:

Silver Millacreli Murano Black and White Square Ring

Accessorize with this medallion:

Blue may denote sadness, but when it comes to colors, it actually defines calmness. The sky is blue, after all, when the weather is great, that is. Electric blue is perfect for this season and Dior has the perfect shade. This blue Millefiori studs complete a great blue combo:

The Colors of Spring, in Watches

May 3, 2010 Author: Fashionista | Filed under: Fashion, Fashion Accessories, General

Spring is all about colors and so should our watches. Who could resist this red watch from Korzo?

The color pops! Just perfect for the personality of spring.

Korzo is a Japanese brand that is slowly making a name for itself in the United States. Particularly because of its wide-range of styles. But in this season, the medium-width-strapped watches are perfect.

This white frank silver muller style watch can be worn with anything and it doesn’t clash. You’re going to work, you wear a navy blue pantsuit and it’s boring. Bring out this white Korzo and it’d surely be noticed.

If you want to keep everything neutral while you’re strolling in the mall in a white dress, then the white straps is just enough of a camouflage that will allow the silver dial to catch attention anyway.

But in the spirit of spring, a sun dress would be perfect for this light-colored strappy watch.

A man in a business meeting exudes power, needs a powerful watch as well.

The Swarovski crystals gives off the illusion of being expensive, but actually, this Korzo glitz watch will not burn your wallet. But it gives the impression that if it looks expensive, then it must be expensive and expensive is power.

But if you just want a simple daytime watch for a no-frills kind of day, then a diver watch will be just the thing:

A favorite, though, is the pink crystal glitz watch. Many women have been saying that they can’t wait for their husbands’ birthdays to come because this watch would be perfect for him. Only real men wear pink, you know? So not all men can get away with this:

Girls, I have to say, this pink glitz watch is a perfect gift for a man. Because the man will never buy a pink item for himself. But if it is a gift from a significant other, it must be worn.

Cowboys are sexy and they are the best accessories for women with style.  But if cowboys would rather tame their bulls, then cowboy hats are not bad either. It won’t even break your heart.

In the 2008 Paris Fashion Week, Hermes launched a line of headgears for 2009 including the cowboy hat:

Cowboy Hats are all the rage!

If you’re not too convinced that the product will be sexy, check the pictures in this article out!

Cowboy hats define the ranchers or cowboys.  It doesn’t fall off even in very strenuous activities.  But evolution is but normal. So now, cowboy hats are becoming a phenomenon.  It’s not just fashion statement for the men but the women as well.  Think Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Jessica Simpson.

Cowboys Hats
Cowboy Hats are sexy!

But not all cowboy hats are for celebrities, a lot of them are affordable too.

You could not get anymore girly than a pink cowboy hat. It is a strong fashion statement too because it is bringing femininity to a very masculine item, or what used to be a masculine item.

Talking about femininity and masculinity. It could also go the other way around. Cowboy hats can add masculinity to an otherwise too girly outfit:

Cowboys Hats

But the best features of a cowboy hat are

  1. they are easily recognized and
  2. they are durable.

Here are some tips in choosing a cowboy hat:

  • Long, thin face: choose a hat with a low crown to minimize the longish appearance.
  • Long face with long neck: Aside from the low crown, choose that which tilts downwards.
  • Oval faces: choose a brim with upward tilt because it makes the face smaller.

The best advice though would have to be fit a lot of cowboy hats and watch yourself in the mirror. Better yet, bring along some friends to help you with your decision.

Cowboy hats are great with a casual outfit. Don’t wear it with a gown (duh!), a business attire (duh par deux!) and sporty outfits.  Do wear it with anything denim, sexy top, cowboy boots.

And what’s the best yet?  There are a lot of accessories that go with a cowboy hat!  Here are some of our suggestions!

Get the Supermodel Touch, Literally!

Apr 9, 2010 Author: Vanessa | Filed under: General

Cranston-based Ross-Simons has begun selling jewelry under the signature of former supermodel Christie Brinkley. Known for her amazon figure and beautiful looks, Christie Brinkley was the supermodel of the 90s but until recently she has been known for more than just her looks.
The supermodel has already forayed into home decorations and eyewear so the news that she will be expanding comes to no surprise.
The Christie Brinkley Collection is a line of silver and gold jewelry set with stones such as turquoise and coral that Ross-Simons retails exclusively at its 14 stores, however for the rest of us who want a little something from the collection we can purchase online.
As seen on Entertainment Show: Extra, the collection consists of over 100 pieces from necklaces to bracelets to rings.
But the best part of the collection is the fabulous price, with some items as little as $50, as well as the original designs which include southwestern inspired bracelets and beautiful floral details.

“They’re exactly where they should be in today’s economy,” Brinkley said. “I didn’t want to get to the price point where things fall apart.”

Our favourites are the bracelets, silver or gold, they are perfect for any day and as Brinkley wanted for ‘any use’.

Lauren Conrad + Murano Glass Bracelet = Spring Fever

Apr 6, 2010 Author: Fashionista | Filed under: General

Lauren Conrad came a long way from being the bratty, dumb blonde from Laguna Beach to a trendy designer.

When she first burst out in the clothing business, she went high-end and the global financial crisis forced her to fold her business. But now she’s back and her 2010 spring collection is better than her high-end designs. They’re wearable, simple and not too splashy with the colors, which is just perfect with the colorful Millefiori Murano glass bracelets.

Conrad has this silver and gray-colored one shoulder dress, so chic and so simple. Conrad, who also modeled her spring collection, wore the dress with a black belt and paired it with black pumps. But I suggest, in favor of the season, wear a pair of bold-colored heels, like red. Then, accessorize with the Millefiori Murano glass bracelet.

This bangle wouldn’t clash too much with the red heels.

Conrad also has this cocktail dress—a blue, tiered, ruffle dress that she accentuates with a black belt. But I’m thinking silver belt and matching silver sandals would be trendier for a night out. But if you want a casual look, keep the black belt but use flats rather than heels.

The blue in this bracelet is louder than the other colors, which perfectly compliments the cocktail dress.

But the most spring that Conrad did is a ruffle, flower-printed dress. Keep the look springy by wearing Giselle Bundchen’s strappy flip-flops from Ipanema, preferably white. Again, Conrad accentuated it with a belt, but I would decide against that. After all, spring collection should be flowing.

The green flower may clash with the blue print but you are allowed three colors after all before anyone calls you out for being a rainbow. Besides, the flower design matches the dress’s flower prints.

But this is my favorite Lauren Conrad spring 2010 design:

KORZO Red Frank Rainbow Numbers Watch

It may not be very springy, but it is the coolest outfit. I love the silky, lace dress! Complete the rock chick look with this Millacreli bracelet.

You’ve got mail, the bracelet sending you love!

Apr 6, 2010 Author: Vanessa | Filed under: General

If you’ve ever seen the film ‘You’ve got Mail’ you’ll realize how romantic letters can be. But sometimes sending mail is difficult, and getting your message across can harder.

So when i came across this gorgeous bracelet on Etsy, i knew it was a must-have for anyone wanting to say the three words ‘I Love You’ in a understated but romantic way.

Decorated with ‘large, sparkly aqua blue faceted quartz bead’ the envelope is engraved with ‘I Love You’ which can be viewed via a clasp. Secret messages aren’t just for kids!

The best bit of all is that the bracelets are literally ‘limited edition’. Handmade and designed the bracelets are rarely in stock due to high demand, but if you want one of the gorgeous bracelets get on it as there is one left at the moment!

$22.50 for one seems like a small price to pay for a permanent declaration of your feelings, no?

When I was digging around online tonight to check out what’s going on in the jewelry industry (and, if I was lucky, come up with something more creative than tying a string around your wrist to talk about!) I came across a fantastic site called NOVICA. If you couldn’t place the association, it’s connected to National Geographic. That means you’re going to be connected to skilled artisans and craftsmen (and women!) all over the world!

We’d be here all day if I tried to point out all the bracelets offered on NOVICA (I can already guarantee that

"Feeling Free" Sterling Silver Cuff Bracelet from NOVICA

"Feeling Free" Sterling Silver Cuff Bracelet from NOVICA

half of my paycheck is going to be going there!) so let’s start with the short story. Every piece of jewelry sold by NOVICA is handcrafted, carefully fitted together for style and design. You have a choice of cuffs, sterling silver, beads, leather…the list goes on and on!

Each time you visit NOVICA you also get the chance to visit the history of cultures around the world. For example, the current spotlight is on handmade gemstone bracelets and traces their history from the earlier Egyptians to the 1950s and the diverse role they play in the marketplace today.

In case I wandered off a little too far on my geeky history kick (I LOVED my art history classes in college) this site is COOL! If you like ethnic jewelry (or any kind of jewelry) take the time to check it out.

I was not feeling this at all. This is a horrible choice for Jessica Biel. Jessica as a wonder shape but this dress made her look boxy! Yes boxy is a word. Ok its a word in my head but a word none the less. Lmao! I love Prada but this was a bad choice. It ok Jessica you will get it right next year. Just remember that you are dating Justin Timberlake and that is never bad!

pintoslide
FREIDA PINTO looked absolutely fab in this John Galliano gown. I loved the embroidery. The original gown is completely see through, so I like that layers were added. Many may not agree with me, I think that this dress is lovely and unique! Wonderful choice Ms. Pinto.

hensonvespaslide

Taraji P. Henson looks wonderful in this Roberto Cavalli. Taraji had an amazing statement necklace by Fred Leighton. This diamond flower necklace was made in the 19th century! Ms. Henson you get the award for best jewelry! Congrats and welcome to the fashion elite!

sjpslide

SARAH JESSICA PARKER is wearing a great Dior haute couture. I wasn’t impressed with this choice but it was not a bad one. I would love to see her in another silhouette.  I love Sarah Jessica Parker, she is a fashion icon. Yes I said it. I hope to see something new!

Engagement ring- how to buy

Feb 17, 2009 Author: Malan | Filed under: General

Many men and women are getting ready to pop the question to their significant others. So I decided to give you some wisdom in selecting the perfect ring for you future husband or wife to be. I am going to discuss the steps of buying the perfect engagement ring. I will also add so fun and funky alternatives to the typical “diamond ring”! Let get started all my totallymystyle.com readers!

p0003638_300

1.)Know what your mate wants!

Know your guys/girls style. Look at your mates jewelry and pay attention to what they like. If your companion points out a ring or bracelet, than go toward that kind of jewelry. If your girl/guy wants a ring with vintage appeal, than click here

2.) Silver, Gold, Or Platinum

Ok, this is a easy on unless you are completely oblivious of your mate. If your girl/man wears silver, than get a silver or platinum engagement ring. If your partner wears gold, I suggest you get them a gold ring. It is just that simple!

3.) Ask His/Her Friends

Ask your mate friends, they will know what your love wants. If you mate has a close sibling-even better. I would take them with you.  Take their suggestion too.

4.) Know your 4 C’s

The 4 C’s are Carats, Color, Cut, and Clarity. I found a great site by G.I.A (The Gemological Institute of America). It explains the 4 C’s in great detail. Just click Here

5.) What is your budget

Know how much your have before you spend. If you have $1,000 for the ring, than try to get the best quality for the price. If you have less than 1,000 than opt for a Bridal set. A bridal set includes the bride’s wedding ring and the groom’s wedding ring. There are also trio wedding sets. These sets include the engagement ring, the bride’s wedding ring and the groom’s wedding ring. my fiancee brought the trio wedding set and I am very happy.

6.) Find a great jewelry/jewelry store

Research different jewelry store in your area.  Make sure you ask your friends, family, and other married couples. They will tell you who is good and who sucks! Research every store before you enter. Make your choice is a registered jeweler and/or gemologist.

7.) Buying the ring

When buying make sure your ring has a Certificate of Authenticity. Have your ring(s) appraised. Know how much your purchase is worth. This way you will know if your ring(s) is worth the price. Do not forget to get insurance on your ring. Remember that anything  can and will happen!
