That Little White Dress!

Jul 28, 2010 Author: Fashionista | Filed under: Fashion, Fashion Accessories, Jewelry, Lifestyle

Although a lot of people are looking to wear colorful prints this summer, some of the world’s most fashionable are looking for a muted summery look.  And while the little black dress is still a classic, it’s arch-nemesis — the white dress — is slowly creeping up into classic cult status.

It might shock you but A-list celebrities are donning the simple white dress for premieres, runways and other events.  That is in stark contrast with the all-time favorite black or the more eye-catching red.  But instead of blending with the background, they have stood out.

Just take a look at these for example:

Ciara

Yup! That’s Ciara at the G.I. Joe The Rise of the Cobra premiere.  She chose to go simple with a white bustier and a prominent necklace.

Nicole Scherzinger

Erstwhile Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger dressed accordingly for the White Party looking all bohemian in a summery maxi dress.

Jennifer Love Hewitt

Jennifer Love Hewitt is not to be outdone.  She donned the white dress as she graced the Syfy Comic Convention Party.

If you’re beginning to think that the white dress is only for formal occasions, think again.  Here is how Ashley Tisdale gave the white dress an on-the-street look for summer:

The beauty of the white dress is that it is all so simple that you can wear it anywhere and still look perfect for the occasion.  It could be worn with those summer boots or a pair of flip flops on the streets or to malls.  It could be worn over bikinis while spending the afternoon at the pool.  Or it could be donned for a lovely night of drinks with friends or a loved one.

It is also very easy to accessorize.  Anything from colorful bracelets, quiet pure gold necklaces, pearls, silver rings, dangling earrings or bangles could help you complete the look.  And when we say anything, we do mean ANYTHING.  This is because the little white dress acts like an empty canvass and your accessories acts as the paint.  So if you wear a little white dress, put on a touch of blue, red, yellow, green, or just about any color you could think of and it would still be perfect.

And by saying you can wear it any time of the day, we say any time of the day.

Some reminders though.  A timeless black dress should fit you very well and should be simple enough to be able to accessorize it with the latest fashion accessories.  If you are going to have just one black dress, then go for one that is around knee length, this way you can pull it off even at cocktail parties or at the mall.

Accessories believe it or not, play a huge part on the outcome of your wardrobe. Make the simplest outfit pop with a colorful necklace, bag, or shoe.

The first item is the Space Candy Gobsmacker Pyrite Necklace in Yellow designed by Randi Mates. The Brooklyn native line Ares(means ‘personification of destiny’ in Greek) got it’s start in 2006. Randi Mates has always shared a unique interest in arcane, and the line Ares was inspired heavily by antique metals. In an interview with Refinery 29, Mates says:

“Herkimer Diamonds are not diamonds at all,” she says, “but rather quartz with two terminations at each end. They were first discovered by colonists in the late 18th century, and many stories suggest they were sold to unwitting consumers as real diamonds. As a historian, I love the lore, but more importantly, as a designer, the forms were completely inspiring.” (Quote)

The Space Candy Gobsmacker Pyrite Necklace, is currently on sale for 114.00 at Revolve  Clothing. The last items is the ‘Sweet and Simple’ Jellybean Necklace, part of the adorable Candyware line. The Jellybean necklace is priced at a affordable price of 15.00. Colors available are blue, green, pink and orange.

Day-Glo Trend

Jan 20, 2009 Author: Timika | Filed under: Fashion

Stephen Sprouse first wowed audiences with the Day-Glo collection in the early eighties, the designer passed away in March of 2004 from lung cancer however, his legacy still remains intact. In honor of Stephen Sprouse’s collection of work, Louis Vuitton and Deitch Project hosted launch parties simultaneously. Popular runway model Molly Sims and designer Marc Jacobs were just some of the few to come out and show support. While Stephen Sprouse didn’t originate Gay-Glo, he did however, make it his own. The colors were daring and eye-popping, a rarity for fashion back then.

Eighties “It” girls Debby Harry, Madonna, and Paige Powel sported Sprouse’s Day-Glo and helped the line become one of the most sought after collections in the fashion industry.

With spring heading right around the corner make a statement with some of these funky pieces. The first item is designed by “Queen of Fashion in Copenhagen”,Malene Birger . Whether it be lounging at the beach or on the go, make a statement with this high heeled 30182 Camey Shoe. Another one of Birger’s standouts is the 29747 Jiva bejeweled necklace, perfect for the everyday chic.

New jewelry for all ages

Ok so I was asking many of my fashionista friends what is the hot new trend in jewelry today! Well I have something for you. Let me introduce you to Tutu Luv Me Lip Gloss Charm Collection.

(Here is a picture of TUTU Luv Me Bracelet)

I love this product because Tutu Luv Me Lip Gloss Charms are a Nickel and Lead free. It has a lip-gloss filled heart charm and a plastic mirror instead. I think this is the best thing candy necklace! The best thing about The Tutu Luv Me Collection is that it was inspired and created by Dasia Aigner (a 10 year old girl from Willingboro, NJ) and her dad Marcus C. Dawson Sr.

The meaning of Tutu Luv Me is Teach U to Teach Us. Tutu Luv Me collection will include shirts for boys and girls. The TUTU Luv Me slogans that will appear on the shirts will be “Do good in school because I Luv Me” or “No drugs because I Luv Me. The TuTu line also includes a bracelet with a heart charm, a necklace with a heart charm and a dog-tag style necklace, also with a charm. All of the jewelry pieces include lip-gloss charm.

I personally like this charm because it is stylish and fun. The design is very chic and simple. Plus $2 from the sale goes to the local PTA. For more information go to http://www.tutuluvme.com/

Make a Jewelry Statement

Nov 28, 2008 Author: m.chelle | Filed under: Fashion, Fashion Accessories

Let’s face it–pulling off some of the couture looks of the runway isn’t all that easy to do in anyone’s day-to-day work life or personal life.  But there is one new runway trend that can be adapted to real life–the jewelry.

The hot new jewelry trend that filled the Spring/Summer 2009 runway shows?  Statement jewelry.  The runways of Giambattista Valli, Christian Dior, Christian Lacroix, Chanel, Roberto Cavalli, and many more were filled with models wearing ornate and exotic necklaces, chunky bangles and elegant cuff bracelets.  This type of look is one you can easily bring to your wardrobe!

On the left is a necklace from Giambattista Valli’s 2009 Spring collection.  Gorgeous, isn’t it?  Yet I doubt many people would have an occasion to wear such an elaborate piece.  A statement necklace like the one on the right by Bounkit for Vivre can give the same strong effect and fits right in with the trend.

The statement necklace above isn’t exactly inexpensive (it normally sells for close to $1000), but it goes without saying that a piece like this is well worth the money.  Imagine how much mileage you would get out of a necklace like this during the spring and summer this year!

The bracelets seen on the runway were made of all sorts of materials.  Traditional gold and silver is, of course, always in style.  But the bold, chunky bangles and cuffs were also offered in more exotic materials–anything from enamel to wood to wool and much more was fair game.

Take a look at these bracelets (from left, Louis Vuitton, Burberry, and The House of Dereon–Beyonce’s fashion line):

You can find some great options for adding a style statement to your wrists this spring and summer–and the choices are pretty much endless.  Go with designer pieces like those above if you like, or go vintage and stack some Bakelite bangles on.  Try a lacy cuff or a couple of colorful chunky bracelets.  Here are a few good sources for finding some new pieces for this season:

Topshop.com has several designer-inspired pieces at not-so-designer prices.  Check out my fave, a rhinestone leopard bracelet:

Etsy.com is a treasure trove of handmade, one-of-a-kind pieces.  There is such a huge selection of jewelry on this site, so shop when you have some time to browse.  Here’s an exotic kingwood bangle I found for only $36:

I also like www.shopkitson.com as a source for bracelets.  They carry a wide range of styles, many of which are from well-known jewelry designers such as Alexis Bittar, Rafia & Bossa, and The House of Harlow (Nicole Richie’s line).  I especially like this black cuff from Tommassini:
